This site collects as little as possible, and says exactly which outside services your browser contacts.

What this site does not do

  • No cookies, no advertising, and no tracking across other websites.
  • No accounts, logins, or forms that store your information.
  • No personal information is sold. Visit statistics are not used to identify anyone.

Outside services your browser contacts

Like any website, each service below receives your IP address and basic browser information when your browser connects to it.

  • GitHub Pages hosts the site and may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security. See GitHub's privacy statement.
  • Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views on every page. It uses no cookies and no browser storage and does not build visitor profiles. It records the page, the referring site, load speed, and general information such as country and device type. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • OpenFreeMap supplies the street map behind the Kansas City crime map on the home page. Map tiles are requested only when the map scrolls into view, and they reveal which part of the map you are viewing. See OpenFreeMap.
  • YouTube is contacted only when you press play on a video. Video thumbnails are served from this site, so nothing loads from YouTube or Google before then. Players load from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com, and once you press play, Google's privacy policy applies to that video.

Fonts, images, the site search index, and the map's crime data are all served from this site. Links to other websites, such as YouTube channels or research profiles, contact those sites only when you follow them.

Search

Site search runs entirely in your browser. Search terms are not sent anywhere.

Crime data on the map

The map uses public open data from city police departments. Incidents are aggregated to grid cells before publication, and no exact incident locations or personal information are shown. The map is for education and is not intended for operational, legal, or real-estate decisions.
