When it happens: hour by day of week
Last 12 months. Colors run from the quietest hour of the week (light) to the busiest (dark). Sharp spikes at noon or midnight often reflect estimated times, such as a theft discovered after the fact.
What changed: year over year
October 2025 to September 2026, compared with the same 12 months a year earlier. Group totals first, then each offense category with at least 100 incidents across the two years. Small categories swing more in percentage terms; check the counts.

How these numbers are made
- Source: Kansas City Missouri Police Department via KC Open Data, pulled every Monday.
- Counted by report and offense, so a report with three victims counts once. Reports marked unfounded (police determined no crime occurred) are removed. Dates are when the offense began.
- Crime types are the FBI's NIBRS offense categories, grouped by NIBRS "Crime Against": persons, property, or society (Group A). Robbery counts as a crime against property, as it does in NIBRS. Group B offenses (arrest-only, such as DUI and trespass) and unclassified reports are kept separate.
- Each report is classified by its NIBRS code; when the code is blank, by its NIBRS offense name, then by KCPD's own offense label.
- Locations are aggregated to 150 m squares and block groups. No addresses, names, or demographics are downloaded or shown.
- These are reported crimes. Many crimes are never reported, and reporting rates differ by type and place.
